The Silhouette Makes It Possible

Hi Everybody,

I had some fun today playing with my Silhouette.  This is such an awesome machine, I really need to use it more.  Somebody asked me to make a card with a sea turtle on it for a welcome baby card.  The nursery is decorated in sea turtles.  She emailed a jpeg of a specific sea turtle she wanted though.  So I bought the clip art and then was able to import that into Silhouette and create a cut file.  Thanks so much to my friend Allie Gower for helping me with that.  So, once it was made into a cut file, I had all the pieces to cut out in the different colors.  Wow, check out the eye!  That was a lot of work.  The clipart had more detail like spots, etc. but I chose to keep it semi-simple.  She wanted the big eye so I concentrated on that.  LOL!

She wanted the colors to be blue, greens and sand.  Hopefully I have a satisfied customer.  Thank you Silhouette for making it possible!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

I Crafted In A Barn!

Hi everybody,

I went to a card making get together yesterday in Nashville, IL.  I live in Lake St. Louis, MO so that's about 93 miles away.  Everybody asks me if I'm crazy for driving that far to craft with friends.  I think us crafters would drive anywhere to craft with others.  lol  Yes, we're a little crazy, but in a good way.

We were in the loft of a barn.  Helen has her craft room up there.  It's really nice, looks like a store because she has so much.  It was nice and air conditioned.  Here's a picture.

How cool is that??  Now I can say I made cards in a barn!  lol

Here are the cards I made for our card swap.  We each made 20 cards and split them.

I used the Silhouette to make this card, the cupcake and words.  It cut perfect because I used Close To My Heart card stock.  Please give their card stock and patterned papers a try.  They cut like butter in the Silhouette.  I also used some Papertrey Ink patterned paper in Berry Sorbet.  I also used Fruit Punch Stickles on the frosting of the cupcake and a swirly embossing folder.

Hexagons are so popular right now and I love this set by Close To My Heart.  It's only $13.95, check out the link to my web page for more details. The inside says 'having a friend like you'.

Close To My Heart - Honeycomb
I also used their Exclusive Black Ink Pad.  We all use black ink pads, please give this one a try.  You will LOVE it!

If you haven't gotten together and crafted with other people, I'd highly recommend it.  It's such a great way to spend an afternoon and be creative with other creative people.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Just Because.... For Lori

Hi everybody,

I wanted to share a card I made for my chemo patient.  Her name is Lori.  I can't describe the feeling I have as I'm making cards for her.  I feel like I have a real purpose.  You can sign up to be a Card Angel too.  Just go to Chemoangels.net and complete the Card Angel application.  It's kind of detailed so they can assign you to someone with similar interests.  Please consider doing this.  You just need to send 1-2 cards a week and every now and then a small gift $2-$10.  Can't we all put a little time and money aside for this?  :)

I used Close To My Heart card stock and patterned papers.  If you've never tried their paper, please do sometime.  You'll love it on your cards and with your Silhouette or Cricut.

The stamp is from Unity, Sweet Owl Just Because.

Twine is from Close To My Heart.

Diamond Stickles

Chestnut embossing powder

Thanks for stopping by and have a GREAT day!

Spread Love

Hi everybody,
I took a few days off from blogging.  I had some personal issues going on but everything is getting much better and I've got my head back in the game.  :)

This is a simple card I made for a Gina K Designs/Stamp TV Mix It Up Monday challenge. You have to use a quote or saying on your card.  I used beautiful Chantilly Close To My Heart paper.  By the way, Close to my Heart paper will cut like butter in your Silhouette and Cricut.  If you've never tried it and are struggling with your current card stocks tearing, please give this a try.

Prima Doll Tag

Hi Everybody!
I had a great time on Sunday at a card making get together in Nashville, Illinois.  Crystal Lopez was the hostess.  Lots of food, fun and great crafting time.

I made a tag using the popular Prima Doll and Tag.  These dolls have really grown on me.  They're about 7 inches tall.  This tag can be used to put on a wine bottle, birthday present, door hanger for a child, etc.

Is this cute or what??  The enamel dots are even homemade.  You just cut a piece of small cardstock in a circle shape, run a stylus over it to give it a dome shape and put glossy accents over it.  Now your enamel dots match your project. :)

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Copics on Canvas

Hi everybody,

I tried something new this week that I wanted to share.  I stamped on canvas for the first time and I was really happy with the result.

My family lives in Mississippi so I used a magnolia stamp, the state flower, to make this canvas.  I just bought some pre-wrapped canvases from Michaels.

First, I primed them with Gesso, the clear kind.  You use a foam paint brush to brush it on and it's white but dries clear.  There is also a white kind so don't get that kind or it will dry white.

Since I bought the pre-wrapped canvases, I used wood mounted stamps that fit in the opening in the back and  a piece of foam to make the middle of the canvas taut.  It would've been easier to use a loose piece of canvas but this worked fine.

Next I stamped and colored with copics.  When you color, use light strokes so the ink doesn't smear.  If you use a light color, kind of dot it on.  I used a yellow and that's what I did.  When I used strokes, it smeared.  I used Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

Then I put Diamond Stickes in the middle and Glossy Accents on the leaves.  Stamped Mississippi on it and I now have a nice gift for my Mom.  You can also spray a clear sealant on it but I didn't.

Here's what it looks like.

Then you can frame it if you'd like.

Shaving Cream Technique Tutorial with Sin City Stamps

If you're looking for the Besties Blog Hop, click HERE

Hi everybody,

I wanted to use the Sin City Stamps Art Journaling stamp with the numbers on it for a birthday card and wanted an abstract background so I decided to play today with the shaving cream technique.  It's really easy and results in a beautiful marbled look.

You'll need some shaving cream, paper plate, a butter knife, dye ink reinkers (however many colors you want in your design) and something to scrape the shaving cream off with.

1.  Squirt shaving cream all around on a paper plate.

2.  Use the reinkers by squirting a drop in various places in the shaving cream.  Do this for all the colors.  I used 3 different colors, a pink, orange and green.

3.  Take a butter knife and pull the knife through the shaving cream all the way around the plate to marble the ink but don't mix the colors up too much.

4.   Take a piece of card stock and lay on top of the shaving cream and gently press all over the card stock.

5.  You'll end up with a glob of shaving cream on the card stock.  Take your scraper and just scrape the shaving cream off in a downward motion.

6.  You'll end up with a marbled look.  This is what mine looked like.

I used the numbers stamp from the Art Journaling stamp set and the greeting is from Steampunk Circus.

7.  Here's my finished card.

If you want a fun look that is easy to achieve, try this technique.  I wanted something fun for this particular birthday card and this look is exactly what I had in mind.  I hope you'll try it too!

Please take a minute and check out all of the other projects from the rest of the team on the Sin City Stamps BLOG
