Tutorial for Sin City Scraps and BLOG CANDY

Hi everybody!  I wanted to share a tutorial with you made with stamps from  Sin City Scraps. If you've never used their rubber stamps, please give them a try. I used a beautiful set on this project called Love of Butterflies.  I love using the beautiful  butterfly stamps because the butterfly signifies change or a new beginning. This is especially significant right now because I was asked to be a part of the fundraising efforts for Relay for Life.  The money will be put toward research for all types of cancer.  Rather than make a card, I decided to attempt my first altered art project.  I altered a notebook, making it a decorated journal.  For those of you who may not know how to make an altered art project, I took pictures of each step.  When I got hung up, I just pretended like it was a big card and that helped.

By the way.... Please leave a comment on this blog and I will choose one winner to win a $10 gift certificate to Ribbon Carousel!

These are the stamps I used from the Love of Love of Butterflies stamp set.

I started with a notebook that I felt could look a whole lot better.  lol

Next I cut a piece of card stock to fit the front of the notebook.  I stopped where the black edge starts but some people go all the way to the edge of the notebook.  6-1/2" x 9-3/4" are the measurements for mine.

I was lucky and had this pretty piece of patterned paper on hand, it says Faith, Hope, Survivor, Pink, Courage, etc. I just cut this piece slightly shorter than the hot pink base so that I had a mat showing from the hot pink.  My measurements are 6"x 9-1/4".

Just to break up some of the paper and add some interest, I used Labels 16 Spellbinders die to cut that shape into the patterned paper.

After I cut the paper with the die, I cut a piece of patterned paper to put in that 'window'.  All I did was put some adhesive on the front and adhered it to the top layer of patterned paper.  Obviously this piece of paper needs to be a little larger than the size of the die cut out.

Since my notebook doesn't have a spiral side, I thought I would cut a border of scallops and adhere them to the side of the notebook.  I used Spellbinders Edgeabilities, Classic Scallop.  I always tape my die to the paper so that it doesn't move and you'll want it taped down if you need to back up and run it through your machine again.

I centered the scallop edge along the side of the patterned papers.  This die is only 8" long which is why I had to center it between my 9-3/4" patterned paper.  I could've used the Silhouette and cut a border any size but I just chose to use this one.  Then I placed rhinestones between each scallop.

I had been wanting to play around with my Smooch Spritzes so I did so for this project.  I stamped and cut out the butterfly below and used it as a mask by putting re-positional tape on the back.  I then just gently shook and sprayed.  This color looks like a champagne/gold color.  I was looking for something that would stand out but also be a neutral that wouldn't take away from the pink and white paper.

Here's what it looks like after you take the mask off.  I was then going to stamp something across the butterfly but I changed my mind at the last minute.  LOL!

I decided to spray the butterfly with the Smooch Spritz, cut it out and stamp the word, Hope from a really great set from Unity.  I used a hot pink ink to match the paper. (looks red here??)

I thought the butterfly would look best off to the side so I attached it at the top with a breast cancer ribbon gem on it and then distressed the sides (picture below on finished project distressed).

Not sure if you can see the small, pink butterfly at the top of the flower.  That is one of the Sin City stamps I used.  I just stamped it with hot pink ink and added a small rhinestone.

Here's another of the Sin City butterfly stamps.  I stamped this one in pink and spritzed some of the Smooch on it.

This is the finished altered journal.  It is SO pretty in real life.  The photo doesn't do it justice.

I distressed around the edge of the large butterfly and put rhinestones around the letter 'o'.  I added some rhinestone flourishes in the Label 16 area.  I added flowers and some lace and pink gems on the lace.  I felt like I had to put ribbon on it somewhere so I just knotted a piece of ribbon through the side of the scallops, added a small flower and the small butterfly to the bottom.  It's for decoration but could be used as a bookmark if long enough.

I hope you enjoyed my tutuorial.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Tomorrow I'll post pics of the cards I'm selling for Relay for Life so stay tuned.  So what are you waiting for, go find something to decorate!  LOL!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
