Tutorial Proud as a Peacock - Sin City Scraps

Hi everybody,

Today I'm using two different stamp sets which are shown below and links to both.  I'll be showing a super easy tutorial on two different looks you can achieve just by inking and sponging.  I made this card on Easter actually and you can tell from the colors I chose.

I used two stamp sets, Metal Madness and Wildlife.  (click on the links to view the stamp sets more clearly)

Metal Madness

Wild Life

I used the beautiful background stamp from the Metal Madness stamp set. This tutorial shows direct to paper ink technique, sponging and emboss resist. It's not a difficult tutorial and doesn't take a lot of time.  I wanted to show the beauty of these two stamp sets.

To begin, here are the supplies I used to emboss the background, Versamark, embossing powder and heat gun. This is the background stamp from Metal Madness stamp set.

To emboss, stamp the rubber background stamp with Versamark, inking it really well.  Take an anti-static sponge and rub over the paper to be stamped.  Stamp your paper and pour embossing powder over the Versamark image and shake off.  Use heat gun on this until the embossing powder turns matte or shiny depending on what kind of embossing powder you're using. I tried to take a picture to just how perfect this stamp embossed but it is white on white so not sure how well you can see it.  A lot of people say they do not have much luck stamping with large background stamps but you will with this one! (I apologize for the photo, I need to learn how to edit white on white better.  I am just trying to show how perfect this large stamp stamps and embosses)

Next, I did the direct to paper ink technique.  You just take your ink pad and rub it on the embossed image starting with about a third of it and turning the paper and rubbing down the image again and turning once more and rubbing the ink pad down once more.  This is what it will look like.

What's interesting about this background pattern is when I took the ink pad and rubbed it long ways in the opposite direction, I got this completely different look.  It looks like 2 different stamps doesn't it?

Here's close up comparison of the two different results.

One way, the ink went into the middle of the design showing more white and the other showed more pink.

Next I stamped peacock feathers from the Wildlife stamp set in Versamark and embossed, same as above but this time I took Memento ink and a sponge and sponged color all over the feathers causing an emboss resist result.  I love this technique!

Then I cut around the feathers I wanted to use, stamped the greeting, also from Wildlife stamp set and made a first draft of the card.

I decided to cut the greeting into separate words.

I added some shimmer with Perfect Pearls Mist to the background before adding everything to it.  I tried to show the shimmer. You can see it a little. It just adds a little something without taking away from the beautiful background.

I popped the feathers and greeting on the card with some pop dots so they looked 3 dimensional and here is the finished card.  I got some of the shimmer in this photo.  Below is a close up of how pretty this stamp is and how well it inked up. (I used Memento Angel Pink on the background)  Normally I try to add ribbon, twine, gems, etc., but I didn't want to take away from the background so I left it to where the stamps would stand out, being the center of attention.

And that is how you can achieve beautiful results just by using a simple ink pad and sponge and get different looks in the process.  I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will try it to make some beautiful embossed backgrounds of your own.   HERE is a link to the Sin City Scraps SHOP.  HERE is a link to their BLOG.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!!
