Do you like puzzles? Then you'll like today's card. I've been seeing cards made with cutting plates where the pieces are inserted back into it but this is the first one I've made.
I started with a cutting plate called Quatrefoil from Taylored Expressions. I think this one is so beautiful and classy and it can be made to look fun as well. I think most people cut out two of these, so that two cards can be made by interchanging pieces.
This all began with a background I made with alcohol inks and gold foil pressed on the sticky parts. I love this background and have been trying to decide what to make with it and this idea came to light. I cut it out with the cutting plate and gold seemed like the logical choice for the second one I cut out. I used DCWV Foil Paper in gold.
I glued the 'frame' of the gold cutting plate die cut onto a white 110#cardbase. I used Gina K Designs Connect Glue because this glue is in a pen form and easy to go around the edge and then dot in places in the center. Then I just played around with the pieces to decide where I wanted to glue them in. All you do is glue the pieces back into the 'frame' like a puzzle. It was fun and relaxing as well. I can also use the pink frame of the other one I cut out and put pink and gold pieces in that one to make a second card, or only pink ones.
Next I adhered a strip of 48# vellum to the card. Here's my secret to not seeing the adhesive under the vellum. I use Stick It. Be careful to not mess the glue up with your fingers and you won't be able to see it under the vellum. No more worrying about trying to hide glue dots under what you're putting on the vellum. You'll thank me later for this tip. :)
I used the same gold foil paper and cut out word dies, You sparkle. The You die is from Simon Says Stamp . The sparkle die is from Sunny Studios. I adhered the die cut words with the Gina K glue also.
To finish the card off I added a few sequins in gold and iridescent pink. I love how this card turned out!
I hope I inspired you to try this fun technique! I'll definitely be doing this again because I think it looks so impressive.
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great day!
Regina
