Foiled Mosaic Background

Hi Everybody,

I was playing with Deco Foil Transfer Gel and a Tim Holtz Mosaic Stencil and when I foiled it with the Deco Foil Lapis Watercolor Foil, I was blown away with how beautiful it was. I wanted to make a card with it but wasn't quite sure how I would add it to other stamps, card stock, etc.  

The first thing that I put with it was Paper Temptress card stock called Gold Pearl Linen.  This card stock is so pretty and it's a great weight too.  It's a light gold, if that makes sense, not real yellow in color.  I used ribbon from Paper Temptress as well called 5/8" Opulance Ribbon in Gold.  I loved this ribbon with the other two elements for the card.  It's a sheer, classy ribbon that is easy to work with. 

Next, I cut out the magnolia flower from the Magnolia Dreams Stamp Set by Graciellie Design with my Scan N Cut and foiled with Deco Foil Rose Gold Foil.  I decided not to color the flower this time because I didn't want to take away from the mosaic foiled background.  I just added some Martha Stewart Clear Microbeads in the center of the flower.  You just put glue down where you want them and sprinkle them on glue, easy as that.  Just make sure you are doing it in something like a shoe box top because they will go all over the place.  

I added a sentiment from a stamp set called, Good Thoughts from Graciellie Design.  I also foiled the sentiment with the Deco Foil Rose Gold Foil.  I really like this color foil because it's not a bright yellow gold.  Sometimes you want gold but not so yellow and this is it.  After I printed it, I cut a ribbon banner from white card stock. I finished it with a few dew drops from The Ton.  I love these as a change from sequins and they hold really well.  If you want embellishment but not shiny bling like sequins, dew drops are your answer.

I want to comment on this magnolia flower in the set.  This flower is perfect because the shading is already there so it looks good just foiled or if you want to color it there is no need to guess where the shading is so you can quickly color up some and use on cards.

Christmas Tree Shaker Card in Shadow Box

Hi Everybody,

I haven't posted in a week because my Aunt Paula passed away last Monday.  She had fought cancer for 11 years and it's been so sad to see the toll it had taken on her, but the worst part was the dementia, well, for the family anyway.

My post today is kind of a memorial for her, something I can keep in my craft room that will bring a smile to my face when I look at it.

Christmas was her favorite holiday and growing up, I loved a decoration she had.  It was a red, wooden ladder leaning up against her tree with elves on the ladder.  They looked like they were climbing up the ladder and getting into the tree.  When I was old enough to have my own tree, she gave me a set of these and I loved them so much. A few years ago I got a divorce and moved and discovered that I did not have these and I was beyond upset.

There's a happy ending because the husband I have now surprised me with a new set.  :)

I made a shadow box out of card stock from a file I had in my Silhouette, embossed some little hearts and stars in clear embossing powder and colored in the open ones with clear and red Sakura glitter pens.  I added some white dots using Nuvo Glossy White Crystal Drops.

For the tree, I used a shaker card from The Cutting Cafe.  There is actually a set of eight Christmas shaker cards you can purchase or you can buy them individually.  Here is a LINK to the shaker cards, where you'll find the Christmas tree one that I used. I thought it looked cute to use striped red and white patterned paper.  I cut out all the pieces in the set and put them together like you would any shaker card.  Instructions are on the website as well. Included is an optional shaped card that you can use behind your shaker card and that is what I used.  The tree opens up and you can put a sentiment inside.  I chose a sentiment from a Gina K Designs stamp set (I apologize that I do not know the name).  I embossed it in white and added clear sequins.  I cut the ladder out from a design I had in my Silhouette files and stacked about five of them to give it some thickness.  I decided to use Crazy Birds for the elves.  I stamped and cut a couple out of Bristol Smooth Paper and colored with Zig Markers.  The santa hat is one of the Crazy Bird Accessories and I found the elf hat and shoes online.

The silver tinsel is Tim Holtz Tinsel Twine.  I've had this for years and never used it.  I like it but you need to use a good glue and hold it for a minute so it can start to adhere and then let it dry for awhile.

I Brake for Watercolored Dahlias

Hi everybody!

I started out this year loving poppies and I still do but now I am on to a new flower, the dahlia.  I love all of the little petals and they are super fun to watercolor.  I got my inspiration from a Kristina Werner video.  Her inspiration was from a comforter and she made a card using the purple inks I used below.

The set is called, Quarter Sheet Dahlia.  I also used Large Grungy Leaves stamp.  This is what it looks like...

I stamped the flower and leaves in Versamark ink and embossed with white embossing powder.  I chose a few Tim Holtz inks in Fall colors and just pressed the ink pad on my craft mat and spritzed with water and used a watercolor brush to paint the different colors on my flower and blended.  It's so easy and relaxing.  I also used Fossilized Amber, I added that later to have a golden brown yellow color.  Be careful not to paint outside the lines of the flower.  Then I used Antique Linen to paint the background.  Be careful not to touch the flower when you're painting the background because the colors will run.  Ask me how I know that!  LOL!  Use a heat gun to dry.  Take a paper towel and wipe off the flower and the ink will come off of the embossed part, it resists the ink.  Then I put a few drops of water in my hand and let them drop onto the paper.  After the water sits for 30 seconds to a minute, take a paper towel and blot and you will have the white spots, dry with heat gun.  You can add more water droplets but dry in between.  I sponged ink around the edge of the watercolor paper and around the sentiment.  I added a few sequins and twine and called it a day.
