Shello - Guest Design Brutus Monroe

Hi Everybody,

I'm guest designing during the month of July for Brutus Monroe.  I had a blast making the card I'm showing you today called a Shadow Box Card. Jennifer McGuire made a video showing how to make this card and HERE IS A LINK to that video. I followed her video exactly in regards to how to put the cards together so please refer to video for instructions. 

It was a lot of fun decorating this card because you get to decorate the front and then the inside shadow box part. 

Sparkly background and fish :)

I made a background using three colors of Nuvo Shimmer Powders and used the Wave Die Set to cut it out. There are two dies in this set, I love it! I think this is just a gorgeous combination of this die and the shimmery colors used.  I stamped several fish from the Mermaid Lagoon stamp set and colored them with Zig Markers. I decided to use teal color cardstock on the front so I just cut a strip and embossed a stamp from the Mermaid Lagoon stamp set with Alabaster Embossing Powder.  I used the Embossing Ink as well because it is super juicy. I can see what I stamp really well because it's so juicy and shiny and if that makes sense. I'm a huge fan of Brutus Monroe Embossing Ink and Powders. I added a few of the 2-tone flat back pearls as embellishments to look like bubbles. 

On the inside I used the Mermaid Lagoon Underwater Background Stamp and colored it with Zig Markers.  I really like this background stamp because of the size, it is 4"x6" so as you can see, it was perfect for this card.  It is only 4" wide rather than 6" like most are so you can use it much easier on your cards. I also used the 2-tone flat back pearls as bubbles. I used a teal cardstock strip again on the inside to tie everything together and also the fish, shells and starfish from the Mermaid Lagoon Stamp Set. I just love this sentiment, "On a scale of 1 to 10 YOU are an 11."  

So just watch the video, link above, and decorate it however you want.  I used a pretty large die on mine to make the window because I wanted to use the background stamp and wanted to show as much as possible. You can use a smaller die and have room to stamp below the window and add embellishments

Vellum Overlay Mother's Day Card

Hi Everybody,

I finally finished my two Mother's Day cards.  I'm usually not this late but I had knee replacement surgery and it has been a challenge to make cards because I can't sit at my desk for long periods at a time so it is taking me longer to finish a card.  Normally there would be nothing wrong with that but I kind of have a deadline with Mother's Day. :)  I'll show one today and one tomorrow. 

I made this card for my Mother in Law.  I've been wanting to make this card for a long time.  This is from a Jennifer McGuire video called Vellum Overlay.  I wanted to make something a little different and I thought with the card base being vellum instead of cardstock, that would be considered different to what I normally make.  

She loves green and purple so I used the Beautiful Day layered flower stamp set from Altenew.  I had to go through my inks and pick ones that layered right so after I made this card, I ordered three sets of mini ink cubes from Altenew so that next time, I won't have to spend the time choosing colors for layered flowers. The inside saying, "I Love You To the Moon and Back" is something that she says to my husband all the time so he wanted it in the card.  The stamp is from Stampabilities. 

Please excuse my photos.  I couldn't get great pictures because the vellum makes them looked washed out. 

I love the large Mother die.  This came from Sweet 'N Sassy Stamps but it is no longer available.  I cut the die out with foam and Stick It so that it would have dimension and put some Nuvo Crystal Drops called Violet Galaxy over the word die to give it the pearly purple look.  I added a few lavender pearls as embellishments for the front and a purple gem in the center of the flower.  I used Brutus Monroe Alabaster (white) Embossing Powder to emboss the front of the vellum.  

Be sure to use a heavy weight vellum.  I used a 48# and it still warped a little from using the heat gun so I just stuck it under my MISTI with a piece of copy paper over it to protect it and that flattened it out. 

I'm glad I finally made this card.  There are quite a few steps involved so if you make it, take your time and enjoy the process.

One More Mother's Day Tulle Shaker Window Card

I made a second one using a yellow card stock by Gina K Designs called Sweet Corn and I embossed the sentiments in gold. I finished the card up and discovered there was a HOLE in the TULLE!!  Luckily the hole wasn't very big and it was near the edge of the window.  Well, guess what, I fixed it!  I can't believe I was able to save this card.  I put 3 layers of 1/4" scor-tape going different directions over the hole, then I placed a large foam square over the scor-tape and then placed a large flower over that.  So, learn from me my little grasshoppers lol.

I know people always say you can always fix a mistake on a card somehow but a hole in tulle??  I never thought I would be able to fix that. 

For my card today with the gold embossing, I used the stamp set from Casual Friday Stamps called Pretty Posies.   I inked up the flowers with Tim Holtz inks, Ripe Persimmon, Abandoned Coral, Spiced Marmalade and Fossilized Amber.  The leaves are inked with Tim Holtz, Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn.  I used Stampendous Detail Gold Embossing Powder. I hope you liked my cards and my fix for a hole in tulle.  I hope you'll try to make this card, it is a lot of fun for sure!

Jennifer McGuire's Tulle Window Shaker Card for Mother's Day

Hi Everybody,

It's time to make Mother's Day cards and when I saw Jennifer McGuire's video on Tulle Shaker Cards, I knew I wanted to try it.  They are so fun to make.  You would think the tulle wouldn't be strong enough to hold the sequins but there is a double layer and it does.  Here's my card....  at first I thought I messed up by stamping the sentiment instead of embossing it but the more I looked at it, I think it wouldn't stand out as much if embossed in white, gold, etc.  There is a nice contrast between the kraft card stock and the beautiful colors of the flowers and sequins and in the sentiment.

This was my first attempt.  I really love the die that Jennifer McGuire used but I don't have that one and of course, it's sold out because everyone wanted it after watching her video, so I used something similar.  I love how you can see through the tulle to the inside of the card too.

• Gina K Designs Kraft Card Stock, the lighter color is from Close To My Heart, not sure of the name
• Altenew Botanical Garden Stamp Set (flowers), some of the leaves are from Casual Friday Stamps, Pretty Posies
• Inside Sentiment, Heartfelt Expressions Stamp Set by Heartfelt Creations
• Front Sentiment by I Brake For Stamps
• Memento Expresso Truffle Ink
• Spellbinders Big Scallop Circles Large ( I used the 3rd one down from the largest)
• White Tulle (it doesn't matter where you buy it, mine is cheap from Joann's)

I'm going to play around with recording videos and starting a YouTube channel if I can pull it off without sounding ridiculous so I will let you know if this happens.  I love to do tutorials on my blog and post step by step pictures but it's much easier to show you so I hope I can do videos in the near future.  Videos are much more fun to watch anyway!

I hope I inspired you to make a tulle window card.  It's really not hard.
