Getwell My Friend

Hi There!

I don't make a lot of Getwell Cards but I'm going to be more mindful in the future of making them.  I recently had a knee replacement and I received so many cards from my wonderful cardmaking friends.  There were days that I was in so much pain and so down and these cards resulted in smiles and even happy tears.  I never thought about the impact a card can have on a recipient until I was in a position to receive them and experience it.  Not sure if this made sense but my point is I made one today lol.  This crafty friend also had a knee replacement so I really hope this card will bring a smile to her face.

I started this card with a beautiful glittery background in a happy color.  I used a stencil from Gina K Designs called Daisy Chain with Bo Bunny Glitter Paste in Buttercup.  Such a beautiful color!  I used a palette knife to spread the paste over the taped down stencil and set aside to dry. It is so easy to work with.    

After dried, I cut it to the size I wanted for my card and cut a strip of heavy weight vellum in 48# and applied a strip of Stick It to the back.  You cannot see it behind the vellum.  Try not to get your fingers in the glue, you may be able to see where the glue is messed up, not sure. 

I cut out this Getwell word die from Paper Smooches in Gina K Designs Passionate Pink cardstock and adhered it to the vellum.  

I used the 'my friend' stamp from an Altenew set called, Thinking of You.  I say, 'my friend' when chatting with people on Facebook, such as, thank you my friend, so I was excited to find this stamp.  I used Brutus Monroe Alabaster Embossing Powder (white) and embossed on black cardstock and cut into a strip. 

I happen to have some Gina K Designs Envelopes in Passionate Pink so I'm excited to pair this envelope with the card.  Who doesn't want to get a card in a hot pink envelope??  Just sayin'... :)

Scripty Sayings - Sympathy Card

Hi there crafty friends,

I made a sympathy card today for a very special person.  I don't usually like making sympathy cards for obvious reasons but I do try to make them as pretty as I can because I would rather get a card in happy colors than in black, brown, neutral colors.  I used to make all my sympathy cards in those dark colors.  What do you use for yours?  I'd love to know.

I used this beautiful stamp from Gina K Designs called Heartfelt Hydrangea, stamping with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on Xpress It Blending Card paper and colored with Copic Markers. In the centers of the flowers I used Nuvo Drops in Sherbert Shimmer. It's a beautiful glitter pink color. 

I did this particular layout because I wanted the flowers to look framed so I put a scalloped stitched die frame around it from Gina Marie Designs.  

The sentiment is stamped with Onyx Black Versafine Ink and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder from Brutus Monroe called Icicle. The stamp set is from Gina K Designs called Scripty Sayings.  I put ink only on the words to make it fit where I wanted it to go.  The green polka dot paper is patterned paper I had in my stash.  

I hope you liked my card today.  Oh, my husband brought it to my attention that I didn't center it right lol.  I do normally center my cards but, I don't know, today I felt like I wanted to offset it.  I think it looks great this way.  What do you think?

Stenciled Oxide Ink on Smooth Black Cardstock

Hi Everybody,

I don't know about you, but I have a 'list' of techniques in addition to papers, paints, inks, etc., that I want to use and I'm just now getting to using Oxide Inks on black cardstock.  The look is so interesting, like velvet.  When I was growing up, I loved the paint by numbers paint sets and some were velvet.  Am I dating myself? lol 

I used a smooth black cardstock from Paper Temptress called Neenah Super Smooth Black.  The ink blended on this cardstock perfectly. I used Wilted Violet, Fossilized Amber, Peacock Feathers and Faded Jeans.  I used the jumbo sponge daubers with a Tim Holtz stencil called, Splashes and sponged it on, doing two layers.  Next I spritzed with water but I accidentally used the bottle of water I have with the Pearl Perfect Pearls mixed in.  I do love the result, so shimmery!  Sometimes my accidents turn into beauties, other times, not so much. :)

I used Gina K Designs Wilted Violet cardstock on bottom layer of card. I cut out a Hello word die from Honeybee Stamps, Gather Together set and inked it up with Wilted Violet to match background.  I cut out 3 or 4 to give it some dimension using Gina K Designs Heavy Base Weight White cardstock. This is the shadow part of the die. 

 Next I cut out the letters in Hello and decided to use the new WOW Embossing Glitter Powder called Persian Indigo since I had purple blue colors in the card. I used tweezers and carefully pressed into an embossing ink pad and then dipped into the glitter embossing powder and heat set, repeating 3-4 times to get really good coverage. 

I thought vellum would be the best way to adhere the Hello word die so I used a stitched rectangle die to cut out and I wrapped it around card layer and adhered it tightly.  I used a Zig Glue Pen to glue the word die shadow and letters. 

I think this card turned out so pretty!  I hope you'll try oxide inks on black cardstock if you haven't already.

Love You To The Moon

Hi Everybody,

So, lately I have had some medical issues one being, I have to get a double knee replacement, one in April and one in May. I hope it doesn't affect my crafting too much but I can always color stamps and make cards later.  My husband has been wonderful and I wanted to make a card to tell him how much I appreciate him.  

I made an Oxide Ink background, trying to use colors that I think of when I think of what the Earth looks like, as well as masculine. Next I used Toner Paper from Thermoweb to cut out the Tim Holtz Mini Globe Die and then foiled with the beautiful Amber Watercolor Deco Foil.  I just love how awesome this foiled globe looks against this matte background.  

I picked up this Love You To The Moon and Back Stamp on clearance at Hobby Lobby, made by Stampendous.  So many people in the Stamp Junkies group on Facebook showed their clearance haul so I had to go check out my local store.  I was a little disappointed that I didn't see many clearance items but I did buy several and I also had a give a way in the Junkies group, whoever guessed closest to what I spent would win a prize. So fun! 

I was so afraid I would mess up my background using this wood block rubber stamp on the front.  I am so used to the Misti now which ensures I'll stamp straight.  I bet I messed up alot of cards using these wood block stamps back in the day. :)

I used Gina K Designs Kraft cardstock for bottom layer and the Oxide Ink top layer is Bristol Smooth paper.  

I used Simon Says Stamp stamp set called You Matter on the inside.  I foiled the matching You die to this set with Lapis Watercolor Foil from Thermoweb.  I used Versafine Onyx Black to stamp the sentiments on front and inside and then embossed with clear embossing powder to make it stand it more.  I used Brutus Monroe Embossing Ink and Icicle Embossing Powder.  If you haven't tried this brand, please do, I think you'll be pleased.

There are two perfect sentiments in this Simon Says Stamp set to go with this globe die... You Rock My World and You Make The World a Better Place. 

I hope I inspired you to make your spouse, boyfriend, partner, etc., a card to show how you appreciate them.  I don't do this enough, sad to say.  He's about to have to help me through two surgeries back to back so I better start doing better lol.

Oxide Ink Background for Christmas Card

Hi Everybody,

I have been somewhat MIA the last few days due to a knee issue but I'm back now.  I love this card that I'm showing you today.  I made an Oxide Ink background using Worn Lipstick, Candied Apple and Abandoned Coral.  These colors look really great together!  I did the smooshing technique where you put some ink down on your craft mat, spritz with water and 'smoosh' your watercolor cardstock into the ink.  I usually do it in two colors and use the heat gun for a few seconds. You may or may not need to dab with a paper towel. Then I'll dab it in another color or two and use heat gun again for a few seconds.  It's totally up to you because it will turn out different each time you do it so you just have to judge it for yourself to see when it looks right to you.  I love it when there is a little bit of white left. I took the spray bottle top off and flicked some water drops from the tube part of the sprayer.  You can use a paint brush as well.  You can also flick little spots of paint if you'd like. I used Bristol Smooth cardstock for this card. 

I used the stamp set from Sweet 'N Sassy Stamps called Christmas Botanicals. This is a lovely stamp set and I think you can do so much with it since there are two different kinds of flowers and also separate pieces such as holly leaf, berries, etc.  I love the font for Merry Christmas too.  I stamped everything with Versamark Ink and embossed with Stampendous Detail Fine Gold Embossing Powder.  Even though the flowers and leaves were somewhat colored in when I stamped them on the Oxide Ink background, I colored in the poinsettias and leaves with Zig Markers.  I used a Gold Wink of Stella pen for the center and then went over the centers of the flowers and the berries with Glossy Accents for some added shine and dimension.  

That's it!  When you make an Oxide Ink background, half of your work is done for you!  Did I inspire you to make an Oxide Ink background and use your Christmas stamps on it?  I think this gives the stamps a totally different look than the traditional way that I usually do them.
