Merry Christmas Non-Traditional Foil Colors - TupeloDesignsLLC DT Project

Hi Everybody,

This is my last post as guest designer for TupeloDesignsLLC.  Since they're having a Christmas in July sale, I thought I'd make another Christmas card.  Wow, I'll have two already!  I've never made them in July, it's fun actually to do something different than flowers, etc.

I made a very easy card this week using Thermoweb Deco Foil and Foil Mates. I like using non-traditional colors on Christmas cards occasionally so I thought it would be fun to us them with the foils. I used aqua and hot pink. 

I used a Lawn Fawn Mini Wreath Die Set.  You can cut this wreath apart and make it larger as well but I did not here. I used Thermoweb Deco Foil in Aqua and the Gina K Designs Fancy Foil in Passionate Pink.  I think these two colors look fabulous together! I used Thermoweb Toner Paper to cut out the dies first and then ran these through my Mini Minc Machine with Foil over them. I made a few extra berries. The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn called Merry Christmas Border Die. I used the Aqua Deco Foil for this to tie in with wreath. I used a Zig Two Way Glue Pen to glue everything down. 

The background is Gina K Designs Foil Mates in Polka Party.  I used Deco Foil in Silver for this.  I tied some silver metallic twine around the left side of card, adding a bow and then used fun foam to pop it up on a white card base. 

Super easy and fun to make!!

Coordinating Card, Shaker Tag and Gift Bag! TupeloDesignsLLC DT Project

I will be a guest designer in July also for TupeloDesignsLLC so please stick with me for my Saturday posts this month.  I'm always behind making my Christmas cards so I'll be making a couple this month for 'Christmas in July'.  

For today's post, I'm doing something a little different.  I made a matching card, shaker tag and gift bag.  What inspired me to do this was a sheet of Alexandra Renke paper with balloons on it.  I needed a birthday card for someone and looked through my supplies and saw that I had a balloon shaker window with coordinating tag. 

First I made this Eclipse Card using the Alexandra Renke paper called Circus Design Paper - Balloon.  I am so hooked on using these 12x12 patterned papers.  The paper is thick, not flimsy, so it won't tear, which is the reason I used it for the gift bag in this post. If you would like instructions on how to make an Eclipse Card, HERE IS A LINK to a post I did a few weeks ago.  When you see the instructions you'll see that I used 5 layers under letters and that's because I wanted them to really stick out from the card.  On this card today, I only used two layers. I used a dark gray cardstock for the letters for a subtle shadow. They still stick out so two is plenty. :)  I used a die from My Favorite Things, Die-Namics Big Birthday. (If you want this die, there is a place to click on left side of screen that says email when available). 

I love how this tag turned out!  I used Jillibean Soup Shaped Shaker Tag Insert - Balloon Shaker with coordinating tags for this. The tags are called, Die Cut Tag & Twine - Balloon. There is a coordinating stamp and die set that goes with these but it's out of stock at the moment. 

If you do not know how to make a shaker card/tag or want to make a quick one even if you do know how, these are awesome!  Here's how I made this:

First, I traced around the tag and cut it out from the piece of patterned paper. I traced the balloon shape on the tag where it goes and cut it out and then adhered these tag shaped papers onto the actual tag. Next I laid the balloon shaker window down in the opening with the tag open and put the sequins, etc., that I wanted in it.  I used some from these Jillibean Soup Sequin Packs. This one is Birthday Sequin Pack (love it)! and I used, Watercolor Shapes.  I can promise you that these look so much better in person than in the pics online. 

After you fill the shaker window you close the tag down on top of it.  Now I did cut out a slightly larger balloon shape to use as the back of the window as well. Then you're just going to use a tape runner or glue to adhere the back and front of the tag together. I cut out the word, celebrate from Thermoweb Toner Paper and used Deco Foil Summer Rainbow and I love how this looks! This is one of my favorite foil colors I must say. I added a few of the sequins from the birthday pack on the tag to finish it off.  These tags come with twine but I used a couple of pink colors of twine from my stash for my tag. 

I only had a navy blue small gift bag so I decided to show that you can use this paper to cover a gift bag.  Unfortunately, I only had one sheet total when I started this so I couldn't cover the entire bag.  I'm ordering more though, so I can cover it and show it in a later post referencing this one or even make a video showing you how. 

All you do is measure the sides of the bag so in this case, I measured the front of this bag and then I added about 1/4" extra on both sides. You can add more, it doesn't matter because you're going to be folding it back.  Next, you make score lines on each side so in my case I made score lines at 1/4".  Next I folded the paper back where the score lines are and pressed really good with my bone folder. The next step is to put the paper on top of the bag and fold those sides back around the sides.  You're going to adhere these sides down so use either scor tape or strong glue. I used Brutus Monroe glue because I trust it. 

You don't have to do this but I had a few small pieces of paper left so I used a Fiskars Scallop Punch and punched the top and bottom of this paper, made scor lines and folded it back around sides of bag and glued down.  The scallops just add a little more to the top of bag I think.  Then tie the tag to the handle of the bag.  I apologize that I didn't have enough paper to finish the bag but wanted to give you this idea in this post. 

If you decide to do this, don't start with the front.  Start with a side going to the back, other side and then front so that you don't see the scored 'flaps'. 

I've seen people stamp on bags so that's one way to get the bag you want or like I did here, you can use patterned papers.  I hope you will try Alexandra Renke papers because like I said, they are thick, so they're not going to tear.  I'm hooked on the quality and the beauty of these papers.

Bunny With Daffodil

Hi Everybody,

I made a whopping two Easter cards this year!  Now I'll start on Mother's Day which is a great 'excuse' to watercolor beautiful floral stamps.

So... here's an update on my surgery... I received a call from the doctor's office a week before surgery saying that my insurance was not in network with the hospital that the surgeon works at.  Whaaaat? Needless to say I was a mad mess!  I had to start all over with a new surgeon!  It seems to be working out so maybe that was a blessing in disguise.  My knee surgery will be week of April 9th.  What's my point??  I need to make as many cards as I can this next week. :) 

I just love the Whimsy stamp I used on this card.  it is called Bunny with Daffodil.  I envisioned using it on Spring cards and all occasion such as birthday, hello, etc., but then it called out to me to be an Easter card for someone. 

Here I'm showing the dimension of the card layers.  I love using fun foam or foam tape as I did here.  I cut this top layer shorter than I normally do because I wanted to flower to hang off the side. 

I used Deco Foil Transfer Gel with a Tim Holtz stencil called Rays and then foiled with Gold Deco Foil from Thermoweb with the Mini Minc machine.

a video on adding Foil to the Transfer Gel and HERE is the link.  I am a newbie video maker and these are for beginners. 

Next I colored this stamp with Copic Markers and fussy cut it out using Cutter B Scissors (and readers of course).  I used a grass die from Lawn Fawn since when I fussy cut, the bunny had grass on his feet so I needed to hide that a little. I used Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Pen over the flower petals and insides of bunny ears and nose.  I also cut down the sides of some of the petals so that I could bend them to look a little more realistic.  

I used Nuvo White Drops on the tail of the bunny and Clear Nuvo Drops over the lady bug and over the gold foiled word die, Believe. I wanted to give some dimension. I think when you use clear drops over foil, it gives it somewhat of an acrylic look.  I added Black Nuvo Drops to the dots on the ladybug as well.

Love You To The Moon

Hi Everybody,

So, lately I have had some medical issues one being, I have to get a double knee replacement, one in April and one in May. I hope it doesn't affect my crafting too much but I can always color stamps and make cards later.  My husband has been wonderful and I wanted to make a card to tell him how much I appreciate him.  

I made an Oxide Ink background, trying to use colors that I think of when I think of what the Earth looks like, as well as masculine. Next I used Toner Paper from Thermoweb to cut out the Tim Holtz Mini Globe Die and then foiled with the beautiful Amber Watercolor Deco Foil.  I just love how awesome this foiled globe looks against this matte background.  

I picked up this Love You To The Moon and Back Stamp on clearance at Hobby Lobby, made by Stampendous.  So many people in the Stamp Junkies group on Facebook showed their clearance haul so I had to go check out my local store.  I was a little disappointed that I didn't see many clearance items but I did buy several and I also had a give a way in the Junkies group, whoever guessed closest to what I spent would win a prize. So fun! 

I was so afraid I would mess up my background using this wood block rubber stamp on the front.  I am so used to the Misti now which ensures I'll stamp straight.  I bet I messed up alot of cards using these wood block stamps back in the day. :)

I used Gina K Designs Kraft cardstock for bottom layer and the Oxide Ink top layer is Bristol Smooth paper.  

I used Simon Says Stamp stamp set called You Matter on the inside.  I foiled the matching You die to this set with Lapis Watercolor Foil from Thermoweb.  I used Versafine Onyx Black to stamp the sentiments on front and inside and then embossed with clear embossing powder to make it stand it more.  I used Brutus Monroe Embossing Ink and Icicle Embossing Powder.  If you haven't tried this brand, please do, I think you'll be pleased.

There are two perfect sentiments in this Simon Says Stamp set to go with this globe die... You Rock My World and You Make The World a Better Place. 

I hope I inspired you to make your spouse, boyfriend, partner, etc., a card to show how you appreciate them.  I don't do this enough, sad to say.  He's about to have to help me through two surgeries back to back so I better start doing better lol.

Winter Fun

Hi Everybody,

I made this card a couple weeks ago and didn't post it.   I used lots of fun foils on this one.

Polar Bear Pals by My Favorite Things is the stamp set used.  I colored this cute bear with Copic Markers and cut him and a slightly larger layer out with stitched oval dies.  

I used Gina K Designs Ocean Mist cardstock for bottom layer and the top layer is Foil Mates from Gina K Designs.  I don't think this particular snowflake background is sold but there are larger snowflakes called Foil Mates Background Blizzard which is similar.  I used Iridescent Deco Foil from Thermoweb.  I just love this particular foil, it's so much fun because when you move the card around you see a rainbow of color.  

I used a Martha Stewart snowflake punch for the blue snowflakes and Winter Fun is a die from Die-Versions, Express Edges. Ocean Blue Deco Foil is what I used for both of these, along with the Toner Paper from Thermoweb for the die.  

To finish the card off, I lightly sponged around the bear with Ocean Mist Ink from Gina K Designs.  The embellishments are Brutus Monroe Bottle Cap Sequins in Cotton Candy.  I LOVE the bottlecap sequins!  They are flat and just plop down exactly where you need them to be with no fuss.  The white dots are Nuvo Drops in White Blizzard I used them in Morning Dew under the skates (I think that's the name).  A Sakura Metallic Silver Pen was used on the skate blades and along the sides of the card.

Love You More

Hi Everybody,

I made a simple card using a die and foils.  I love how beautiful and shiny foils are and the variety of colors you can get.  I wish there was a setting on a phone/camera to be able to take better pictures since there is a lot of reflection. 

I used the Simon Says Stamp Heart Sprinkle Trail Die.  I love this die because you can use the hearts that come out of the die for a project and also because I love how you can put whatever color cardstock you want behind the die for contrast.  Today's card has foil behind the die for some shine.

I used Oxide Inks for the background in Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves and a small amount of Abandoned Coral.  Magenta Deco Foil from Thermoweb is behind the die.  I just cut a piece of foil large enough to cover the open areas of the die and taped it down with score tape. 

The Love die is from Hero Arts Stamp and Cut as well as the sentiment, stamped with Versafine Ink in Onyx Black.  I used the Gina K Designs Fancy Foil in Silver on the word Love.  

I just wanted to make a simple card with lots of fun color and shine.

Prismacolor Pencils on Kraft Cardstock

Hi Everybody,

I have been taking coloring classes for almost two years, pencil and marker, from Kit and Clowder.  The website is www.kitandclowder.com.  If you would like to take your coloring skills to a new level, I would highly recommend checking these classes out.  Alyce Keegan is an awesome teacher and friend.  

Right now, you can get this cute penguin image and pencil coloring class FREE.  This class is learning how to color on kraft cardstock and dark colored cardstock.  I colored the image and then made a card with it for a friend for Christmas.  I used Prismacolor Pencils to color him. 

I used Thermoweb's Decofoil Transfer Sheets for the frame (red) and the merry die (green) and I used Transfer Gel with a Brutus Monroe Snowflake Stencil and foiled with silver. I embossed the word, Christmas with white embossing powder on a black cardstock strip.  I added Nuvo Drops in various places on the penguin and finished it off with red and silver metallic twine.

Foiled Snowflake Background

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!  Did you get anything fun for your cardmaking this year?  I didn't but I recently bought a Gemini Jr. from HSN when it was the Special so that's my latest new fun thing for the craft room.  I've only used it a couple times... it cuts really well.  It is a lot louder than I expected it to be.

I just wanted to share a foiled card I made.  I was running behind on making Christmas cards this year so the solution was to use Thermoweb's Deco Foil Transfer Sheets, Gina K Designs Fancy Foils and Foil Mates. 

Here I used the Brutus Monroe Snowflake Stencil (which I LOVE to use with Thermoweb Transfer Gel).  I used the Transfer Gel here with the snowflake stencil and foiled with Ocean Blue Transfer Sheets.  How beautiful is this??  Then I cut a strip from the Gina K Designs Foil Mates Backgrounds using the one called Blizzard and foiled with Silver Deco Foil Transfer Sheets.  I used a sentiment from the Gina K Foil Mates and foiled with Ocean Blue Transfer Sheets finishing it off with two silver glitter strips on the sides.

You can definitely keep using this snowflake stencil over the winter to make New Year and Winter themed cards.

Easy Christmas Card and Bag Toppers Using Foil

Hi Everybody,

A couple of posts ago, I showed how to make simple bag toppers for candy.  I am hooked on these!  I took some to my dentist office a few days ago with a card and they loved getting these.  This time I used foil which makes them even more fun to make.  Who doesn't like shiny??

I made this card using the Gina K Designs Foil Mates Backgrounds in Ornamental Holiday and Gina K Designs Foil Mates Sentiments in Holiday Cheer. I used the Thermoweb Decofoil Transfer Sheets and the Gina K Designs Fancy Foils.  I also used these to make the bag toppers.  I made these a little wider so that the tag would fit.  They are appr. 4-1/2" wide x 4-3/4" tall and scored at 2-3/8".  If you would like to see the original post about bag toppers, HERE IS A LINK to that post.

I used Fancy Foils in Radiant Red for this Background (link above for the background)
I used Silver Deco Foil Transfer Sheets for the Sentiment (link above for the sentiment)
I cut out an oval stitched die a little larger than the sentiment and foiled it in the silver. 

I just added the silver and red metallic twine sticking out from behind the tag on the card.  The cardstock layer on the bottom is Gina K Designs Red Velvet.  I love this red color for Christmas and Valentines cards. 

For the bag toppers I used a mix such as Deco Foil Transfer Sheets in Magenta (Love this color!), Fancy Foil in Sparkling Silver, Deco Foil Transfer Sheets in Ocean Blue, the background in Large Snowflakes from Gina K Designs, and I don't know the name of the second one with the ornaments on it but I don't think she sells this one any longer.  


Next week, I'll take these to my doctor's office to give to my doctor and his nurse.  It's just a little way of saying I appreciate you.  Everyone in the family will get one along with their gifts. These are great to take to teachers, kids in class, neighbors, etc.  

I hope I inspired you to use foil this year on your cards and try these fun bag toppers. Who said Christmas needs to just be red and green.  Try something different such as the magneta, ocean blue, etc. It's so much fun!

Country Christmas Using Foil

The first thing I did was position the pine limb and pine cones how I wanted them and printed on a laser printer.  This is one of the neat things about digital stamps... you can size them and place them wherever you want to and when you print out using a laser printer, you can foil the image because it printed with toner ink. In this case, I used multiple foil colors to make it look as realistic as I could. 

I am using a few products from Thermoweb on this card including the Gina K Designs Fancy Foil in Radiant Red.  This foil is SO pretty because it looks glittery. I used the Gina K Designs Fancy Foil in Radiant Red for the bow and Green Deco Foil for the pine cone with the Mini Minc Machine.  I am very fond of the watercolor foils and the Amber Watercolor Deco Foil is so perfect for the pine cones. I sponged around the focal image stamp with Distress Inks in Pumice Stone and Antique Linen to give it a 'rustic' appearance.  

I have a scalloped rectangle die that cuts out a 'frame' piece so I used that part along with the Gina K Designs Foil-Mates Backgrounds in Ornamental Holiday.  I love the look of diagonal lines on a card, which is one of the choices in this package.  I used the Gina K Designs Fancy Foil in the Radiant Red with this. 

Let me explain what the Foil Mates are in case you are not familiar with them because you do not want to miss out on using these on your cards this year. The Foil Mates Backgrounds and Sentiments are designs printed with toner so that all you have to do is cut them out however you want to, put your foil on top like you normally would and feed through your Minc or Laminator.  That's it!  I had a family emergency occur in October and we are still dealing with this so I am not on schedule at all making Christmas cards.  A friend of mine told me to start in July and I did not listen lol, so I will be using these Foil Mates and Deco Foil because it is so quick to use but looks like you spent hours getting it to look that way. 

The sentiment is from the Gina K Designs Foil-Mates Sentiments in Holiday Cheer. I also used the Gina K Designs Fancy Foil in the Radiant Red with this sentiment and I cut a background out for it using the Thermoweb Toner Paper and a stitched oval die and then foiled the toner paper oval that I cut out with the die.

The bottom layer card stock is Gina K Designs Christmas Pine and the red card stock behind the pine cones image is Gina K Designs Red Velvet.  I think those colors make the perfect "Country Christmas" card. 

I also used Thermoweb's Sticky Tape Runner and Medium Zots Singles. Both of these adhesives work wonderfully.  I do believe the Sticky Tape Runner is permanent so make sure you put what you're adhering exactly where you want it, but that's a good thing. It's nice to know my card will get to the recipient in one piece without corners lifting, etc. I like the size of the Medium Zots and that they're packaged as singles.  I would recommend any of Thermoweb's products.  I have been happy with every product that I have tried.

So Happy

I have been wanting to make a card for so long just using a blob of watercolor as the background so that's what I did with this one.  I used Bristol Smooth paper and wet it first in the middle and then just added some Gambai Tambi Watercolor Paint in a purple color, I think it's #135.  I let it go wherever it wanted to.  I heat set it, added a little more color and swirled it around a little with a paint brush.  Next I embossed the word Happy with Brutus Monroe Ultrafine Alabaster Embossing Powder. I also embossed the word Birthday with the Alabaster on black cardstock and cut it down into a strip.  The silver glitter strip is a strip of glitter paper just cut into a strip.  I layered it on black cardstock and added a few clear sequins. 

For this card, I used Blue Lagoon cardstock by Gina K Designs, Turquoise Sea would also work.  I used the MISTI to stamp and space out the word, Happy, and embossed with Brutus Monroe Ultrafine Alabaster Embossing Powder.  Also embossed the word Birthday same powder.  I had used Thermoweb Transfer Gel with a stencil and foiled with Rainbow Decofoil so I cut a couple of thin strips and adhered to the sides.  This foil just screams birthday, celebration, etc., to me.  I added some clear sequins to finish it off. 

I think you will have a lot of fun with this stamp set and it would also make a great gift for a crafty friend.

Season's Greetings Shaker Card

Hi Everybody,

I am on the Sweet 'N Sassy Blog today using a stamp set from Sweet 'N Sassy Stamps called Season's Greetings.  Currently, this stamp set is 20% off. 

Have you used the Gina K Designs Fancy Foils? Oh Emm Gee!  They are so much fun!  I used the Foilmates Background Ornamental Holiday pack with the stripes.  I also used the Holiday Colors Foil in Radiant Red and DecoFoil in Green.

I decided on making a shaker card for this one.  I stamped with Versafine Onyx Black Ink and embossed with Brutus Monroe Ultra Fine Icicle Embossing Powder.  I used Bristol Smooth Paper and colored with Zig Markers and put some Clear Wink of Stella over the top, nothing fancy here. I always try to use a Cardinal anytime I can because I lived in the St. Louis area for 20 years, need I say more?? For the snow part, I used Nuvo Gloss White and put a thick coat on.  I then tied some red and white bakers twine around the mailbox, so cute!

I used My Favorite Things Wide Circle Stitch Dies and cut out in a heavy white cardstock. For the clear part I used Fellowes Binder Covers.  They are the perfect weight for shaker cards and not expensive, 100 for around $20.  Can't beat that!  I didn't want to cover the beautiful striped foil so I cut circles from regular circle dies for the front and back.  I embossed the front clear window with a snowflake embossing folder. I filled the shaker window with red, green and silver sequins from my stash and some silver bugle beads for something a little different.

I stamped the greeting with the Versafine Onyx Black to make it really stand out from all the red and green I have going on here.  I used a fishtail banner die and cut a frame outline using Thermoweb Toner Paper and then foiled in Green. I just love how that green foil looks with the red and white.  To finish it off I used some Nuvo Red Berry drops around the window frame and each side of sentiment.  

I had a lot of fun making this card!  Did I inspire you to make some Christmas cards?  Foil is so much fun!  It can really jazz up anything you are doing.  You can't go wrong with birds and bird houses on your holiday cards.
